Ingatestone Garden Centre

The site

Site Allocation Maps 2016The site at Ingatestone Garden Centre is a previously developed site within the parish of Mountnessing, abutting the village of Ingatestone. The former garden centre closed in February 2016, and has not been in use since. Redrow Homes purchased the site in March 2017.

The site is identified in Brentwood Borough Council’s Draft Local Development Plan as a brownfield site, as site number 128. The selection of this site for development followed detailed research and assessment by the Council of many sites across the District.  The Ingatestone Garden Centre site has been selected as a suitable site following this process which was undertaken across the District.

Brownfield allocations are particularly important in the emerging planning policy, as there are relatively few suitable previously developed sites for development in the District. The redevoplment of redundent, brownfield sites such as this means that less undeveloped land is required for development.

The image to the right shows the site's location, as identified in Brentwood Borough Council's site allocations document.
